Iron[ing] maiden

I admit it, the pun is bad :D
But I really did feel like that today. A delivery of about 38m of fabric arrived yesterday.
Yes, the turquoise-pink one is really violently colourful. Since the fabrics are all 80/20 wool-polyester-blends, they had to be steam ironed. I started today, I shall continue tomorrow.

When I drove home today, the clouds and the sun were creating a simply stunning image. The building in the middle is the Semper Opera, my camera would not focus on it better. But look a those sun rays *_*
You know what? I'm really looking forward to near future. Sure, uni will begin again and it will be quite stressful. But I'll see my beloved one again [the day after tomorrow hopefully], Mum, Dad, my grandparents, Dad is going to build me a new bed, I'll be going to a concert of Apocalyptica and so on...heaps of little things. They'll receive their very own post. :)

Sunny Sunday.

This Sunday did completely live up to its name. It was wonderful outside, so instead of going to the museum, Mum and I directly went to the park - the Großer Garten.
But let's take one at a time.

We did indeed go out last night and wandered around in the old part of town for a while before crossing the Carola bridge and moving on into Dresden's "New Town". The old part of town seen from the bridge, wonderfully illuminated:
There wasn't as much going on in the new town as I had expected, so after a while we settled for a drink in a very cosy and cute bar called the "Wohnzimmer". We stayed in there for a while, then walked back to the tram stop and were home and in bed at about 3.30am.

Of course, we slept in on Sunday and didn't have breakfast until almost 1.30pm. The plan was to go to the museum afterwards, but we/I postponed ist for the wonderful weather - 22°C and a blue sky with just the odd cotton-wool cloud here and there.

I just loooooove climbing trees. Shame there are only so few really appropriate trees [such as beeches] around.

There were those really interesting plant-and-wool-and-other-materials sculptures. Of course I had to have a picture taken with me next to the blue one :D

Oh, do you still remember the lemonade tree from the Pippi-Longstocking-stories? We found one of those species.

The colours in the pictures are good for my cam, but they can hardly display the true and really impressive beauty of these flowers in full bloom and sunlight. Mummy and pottery.

Although I really do like my work experience, I was very much looking foward to my "days off" and the weekend this week, the reason being that my mom was going to visit me. I'll come back to that later.

Last night at about 11pm I received a phone call. My boyfriend had spontaneously decided for himself to come to Dresden. *_*
Things like that make me love this man even more. No need to mention that he made my Friday and that I had a wonderful start into Saturday, eh?

Today my mum came here to visit me. I love spending time with her. You can spend a lazy day at home with her including a lot of hot drinks, work outside, go on trips...well, just enjoy the time with her. We were already joking about her getting a nice old farm out in the country and me moving back in with her. I love building cloud-castles like that.

We went into town, enjoyed the sun and the generally fine weather outside, had cake and coffee and went into a really gorgeous soap shop on the main street. I got a bar each of chocolate and lavender soap *.* Just a picture of the shop's inside. It was lovely and smelled sooooooo goooooood!

After that, we went to the pottery market. All the stalls had really pretty and practical pottery for sale; we immediatelly fell in love with some pieces of earthen crockery. Mum got herself a small red jug and bought me a blue and white milk pitcher - I've been wanting one of those for ages! Thank you! *_*
And the decoration! Flowers and fruits, all matching the weather and the season wonderfully! No more words now, just impressions:
We actually wanted to go into town now to see the buildings like the Semper opera illuminated at night and furtheron into the Neustadt to have a drink - Mum quite liked the alternative spirit of this part of town this afternoon.

We shall see. :)

Somebunny to drink tea with.

Look who sat at the front door of our shop this morning:
Someone probably lost him. He was gone by the end of the day, so Cao and I hope the real owner came back to take him home.

The day at work was very instructive and slightly frustrating. Sewing fake sheep fur really is a pain in the ass, but now I know what the difficulties are and how to deal with them :)
Kindly, Cao left me the documents from her apprenticeship on sewing a collar - pictured, detailled and with an exmaple to touch. So I'll try collar sewing tomorrow. :)

This week, I enjoyed a different kind of very fine tea every night. A good friend of mine, Daniel [whom I infected with the sewing virus...he's just started to learn it], sent me 6 different kinds of wonderful loose teas. They are luxurious!
[I usually only have bagged teas, which are also yummy, but rather for everyday use than real enjoyment.]

Tonight's tea was White Tea. Yes, I know, given the name the colour is disappointing xD But look at the the beautiul floral pattern on the teacup and the saucer *.*
The tea as such is a little too bitter for my liking [or I left it in the water for too long], but it has very fine and subtle smoky notes and tastes slightly of dried apricotes [which I love.]
I should have written a tea review every night, I just notice, considering it is already Thursday. Next time; Daniel promised to send me more tea.

Breakfast and nurses.

It was sooooo typical. Usually, I can sleep in until midmorning. Not so today. As I wanted to got to Sammy's for breakfast, I had to get up at abaout 7am. The time is okay by itself - nut not, if you didn't get to sleep until 4am. I simply wasn't tired, so I wrote a blog entry, an email and washed the dishes.

Breakfast with Sammy was lovely. [Oh, by the way, if you like make-up and DIY, you should check out her blog. It's really worth reading!] I got fresh buns from the bakery and she offered 27 different kinds of tea to choose from. The one with peaches and lavender was sooo yummy *_*
We had a great morning, chatting, drinking tea, looking through old photos and taking new ones. Yes, we do both look rather funny :D
At work today I finished a skirt I started yesterday and turned a plain white shirt dress into a nurse's dress. Well, kind of. All I did was sew a red cross onto the chest, which was a little difficult as the white material was stretchy and the red one wasn't. With a little help from Cao and an some "iron-on-glue" [I forgot the proper name of that stuff, though ist was really useful. Shame on me^^]
I quite like the dress though: It's practical, comfy and the pattern seems to be quite easy. The details - pockets, hood, zipper - are just what I like on something to wear for my everyday clothes.
I will definitely sew one of those for myself sometime - in blue of course.

Where/Why has summer gone so suddenly?

Surprise, surprise! There are not only storm and rain here in Dresden.

In fact, as I drove to work this morning, I was pleasantly surprised by what a really fine and clear autumn day ist was. Many people knew how to use it best: Outside.
Of course, it was almost noon already [I don't start work until 12 am], so I didn't have the time to for a little stroll along the river. One future day - soon hopefully - I will get up earlier and go outside to enjoy nature.

I discovered it only today: There is quite a large park not far from where I live. See the small grey box on the left border of the map? It's the main station, I live close to it. And the big green square...well, that's the park.
Unfortunately, the weather gods seem to dislike me - rain was announced for every single morning, sometimes even the entire day, this week. Quite bad framework conditions for a trip to the park.

To me, it is definitely autumn already. It's not supposed to start until the 21st of this month, but well...it's too chilly, too rainy, the sky is very often too windswept to still consider it "late summer". Only once in the recent weeks I saw those small cobwebs, spread out over hedges and between grass stalks with little drops of dew caught in them, which are typical for gossamer.
Yet the trees are still beclouded with the rich, juicy green of their leaves, with hints of yellow only here and there. I'm looking forward to autumn, with the summer having been so short.

I'm waiting for the leaves to turn colourful, to go to the park and enjoy the last rays of warm sunlight, to giggle and run into piles of leaves, maybe to even collect mushrooms...no poisonuos ones though^^
And I'm looking forward to rainy, misty, chilly days to spend inside with beloved ones and books and music and tea and candles and snuggly blankets and movies and trying out cake recipes and sewing and the smell and taste of fresh homemade bread and redecorating the flat and carving pumpkins and soup and...well, I'm not looking forward to homework, but it will be a part of my autumn too as uni will start again on the first of october.

Weekend and other things.

Hi there :)

I went home over the weekend, as I wanted to see my boyfriend [and yet again, we didn't manage to take photos of us^^] and had forgotten some things in Leipzig - for example a rain jacket, which I will probably need this week.
The weather forecast wasn't really a nice one in this respect. I took some things home, mostly - the fabrics from the scrap container. So, here is my yield:
They will all become tubes for new hair pieces...
...those ones hair accessoires...
...and those two batches are to become new tops, skirts and the likes for me.As soon as I have a serger, that ist, as my "ordinary" sewing machine is not able to properly deal with jersey and other elastic materials.

I brought about 5kg of books from home or borrowed them - yes, I do indeed intent to get through them [again] within the remaining 3 weeks until the new semester starts.
In Leipzig I discovered a few things I wanted to show you.

First up: aaaaaadvertising. Let's see how long it will take until CombiChrist are having their songs played on MTV xD
Anyway, I love their music.

Secondly, we unfortunately missed this exhibition.
Why do I always only notice great exhibitions when they are almost over already? I won't be at home this weekend, so no visit to the museum for me/us. Now, why am I sad to having missed out on an exhibition about owls? Well: I sometimes call my boyfriend "owl" [fondly of course]. So for me, it would have been funny to go to this exhibition with him. But well; next time maybe.

Aaaand I've got a new flatmate since last night :DI asked Nico for something small and cuddly, which I can have with me instead of him - well here it is: A little devil. No, my boyfriend is not a devil. He's wonderful. *_*

Soooo much fabric!

Actually I wanted to get up earlier than 11 a.m. this morning, but heeeeyyy...I arrived at work in time and wasn't the slightest bit tired. Nice one :D

The working day started with a lot of serging needing to be done, so I worked with the serger for a while. Dealing with this device is a small science for itself. The serging works, but I always left it to Cao to thread in the yarn.
We got ourselves organized like in a small factory with her sewing and me serging things. Funnily she, wearing a pink cardigan, made the red skirts, while I, wearing my favourite blue t-shirt, serged the turquoise pieces of fabric at the same time. It just matched :D
And than, there it was: The box with the fabric scraps. I was allowed to go through it, pick out what I wanted to have and there were some really beautiful and useful fabrics in there, but also patterned, artificial stuff which was just....well, nothing one could really use further. A lot of what I found I'll probably make into tops, hair pieces like those tubes and other hair accessoires like small bows. We shall see.

Yes. The heap on the right is the entire content of the white container and it did all fit in there. You just needed to push^^ It looked more dramatic in real life though.

Cinderella...almost.

I felt a bit like that today when I went through 6 or 7 boxes of buttons in search for the one button which would most match the ones on a wonderful black woollen coat - where one had gone missing without a trace. I didn't find a perfect one, but, luckily, one looked alike enough so I could use it.
Anyway, this was the reason for me naming this post after Cinderella:
[Gnah... -.- Whenever someone takes a picture of me, there's usually a detail about me I don't like. But yeah, I know, I'm silly.]

Oh, yeah, there's a change to how I am going to blog from now on: It will be all in English.
I'm too lazy to make it bilingually^^ Surely everyone of my readers will still be able to understand what I'm writing about. If not; dict.cc is wonderful in this respect. As I tried to sort out my timetable for the upcoming term last night I noticed that my English is neither really at the level it could be nor at the level I want it to be. So writing the blog in English is just for me to practise good, written English. It won't do any harm. You're all welcome to leave comments in German though :D

Some words concerning my "diet": Well...only drinks for me from tomorrow on. Tea, fruit and vegetable juices. I got myself protein powder and wheat bran today [which is very rich in nutritional fibre] to not run absolutely low on vitamins, trace minerals and whatever else my body needs in order to stay healthy, but I'll really have to cut out on fruit and crisp bread. Otherwise I'll catch myself creeping to the kitchen cupboard every night which is not good. Luckily, the fridge is empty at the moment apart from some veggies. I'll keep it like that.
